The Designer

Hola!

I am Maria, the designer and founder of maracay jewellery, I am so grateful for having you here. I was born in Venezuela and have been living in the place I now call home, Australia, for over 10 years. I am a multi-award winning designer having graduated as an industrial (product) designer from QUT.

The idea for maracay jewellery (yes, all in lower cases) came about from a very young age when I discovered my passion for jewellery.

I first came across jewellery making 15 years ago in Maracay, Venezuela while visiting my grandmother. Because of my grandma’s encouragement and support, I was able to pursue this path. Jewellery making sparked this incredible desire for design. The name, maracay, is in honour to this special time in my life with my grandma and of the city where I fell in love with jewellery making.

With the support of my mother and family, the skills and knowledge as a designer and jewellery maker, I decided to take a leap in pursuit of this dream.

I am so excited to share it with you and hope you enjoy my creations!

Lots of love,

Maria

Mission

Our mission is to offer jewellery that makes you feel special, empowered and confident.

We aspire to design jewellery that allows you to express your individuality and makes you feel confident and beautiful. To achieve our mission, we are committed to implement sustainable practices, deliver unique, timeless and stylish designs, and provide affordability without compromising on quality.

Materials

We only use real and high quality freshwater pearls, either AA+ and AAA grade freshwater pearls. This allows us to provide you with jewellery that has the best quality - most reflective, lustrous, smooth and most beautiful freshwater pearls.

In terms of hardware, our jewellery is handmade either with gold plated, gold filled and sterling silver. Gold plated jewellery is tarnish resistant. Gold Plated hardware has a thin layer of actual gold (0.05%). We mostly use Gold Plated material in earrings as they don’t tarnish as quickly as necklaces, bracelets and rings do. Unlike earrings, necklaces and bracelets are constantly rubbing on the skin which accelerates the tarnishing process. Because of this, we use long lasting and waterproof materials including Sterling Silver and Gold Filled for necklaces and bracelets. The layer of real gold in gold filled jewellery is 5%, which is up to p to 100x thicker than gold plated jewellery. Refer to Jewellery Care for care instructions.

Australian Made

We aim to support Australian local businesses. Whilst base materials are sourced from Australia and abroad, maracay jewellery is proudly designed and handmade in Brisbane, Australia. Packaging is also sourced from Australian local businesses.

Sustainability

We are committed to reduce our environmental impact where possible. This is why maracay jewellery only utilises sustainable packaging. Our environmentally friendly packaging includes recyclable and reusable packaging materials. We also obtain our mailers from Australia Post as they are locally sourced and made out of recycled material. For more information click here.
